The Mournful lamentations songs are sung only in Lithuania, Latvia and Poland. Following songs are one’s of the nations devotions practices of the Catholic Church. The Mournful lamentations nations’ devotion practice author is Polish monks. They are in XV age originator the genre lamento - “lament”. In Lithuania this religious songs are singings in the Lenten’s time before Mass or after theirs in the church, in the churchyard, near the crosses, Iurds and at the homes. The Mournful lamentations are made for six songs. The question is - whether it’s local о non-local tradition? Purpose of the research: investigate music of the Mournful lamentations songs in Lithuania. Tasks of the research are: firstly, to present the historical genesis of the Mournful lamentations devotional practice; secondly, to present the Mournful lamentations music various examples; thirdly, representations Lithuanian, Latvian and Poland melodies together to compare; fourthly, to afford conclusions. Results of conducted research allow drawing these conclusions: firstly, the beginning of the Mournful lamentations national devotional practice and their music is in Poland; secondly, the research revelation, those three songs melodies of the Mournful lamentations in Lithuania are Polish genesis with Lithuanian colour and three songs melodies are from Lithuania origin. The conclusions validate the hypothesis that the Mournful lamentations music in Lithuania is non-local, but brought with Lithuanian colour. |
