Popis: | An investigation of the corticospinal tract of the horse ( Equus caballis ) was made by stimulating the pyramids electrically and recording neural activity evoked in peripheral motor nerves. Conduction velocities of the peripheral nerves were determined and the length of the nerves measured from point of stimulation of the pyramids to exit from the spinal cord. These values were utilized to determine the maximum conduction velocities of the corticospinal tract fibers supplying the fore-limb and the hind-limb nerves. Average maximum conduction velocities for the corticospinal tract to the forelimb motor nerves was 40±9 m/sec. Average maximum conduction velocities for the corticospinal tract to the hind-limb motor nerves was 68±9 m/sec. |
