Popis: This experiment is replicating Ryskin et al. (2016) which tested the presence of verb bias effects in a computer-based study in a lab setting. In the sentence, “touch the bunny with the shoe”, “with the shoe” is most likely demonstrating an instrument with which to “touch” the bunny. This is an instrument-biased verb while “choose the frog with the feather” demonstrates a modifier-biased verb: “with the feather” indicates which frog to choose. We are replicating a study that proposes these biases are relied on when interpreting syntactically ambiguous sentences. Participants will hear an instruction with modifier-biased, instrument-biased, or equibiased verbs while an ambiguous display is presented and then make an interpretation. Eye tracking, mouse movements, and clicking behavior will be observed to test the presence of biases.
