Popis: Purpose . To study the diagnostic capabilities of the IOLMaster 700 as a screening tool for the detection of macular pathology. Material and methods . Optical biometry was performed on 68 eyes of 68 patients, including 43 eyes with ocular fundus pathology and 25 healthy eyes. Doctors performing optical coherence tomography (OCT) selected the patients. In the process of biometry, IOLMaster 700 generates scan of the foveal region 1 mm in length with a low resolution (22 µm) for monitoring the fixation accuracy. Two operators, who were unaware of the results of OCT and had no other information on the presence or absence of the fundus disease, performed analysis of these scans. Results . The majority of patients (40 of 43) were with exudative agerelated macular degeneration, macular hole (full-thickness or lamellar), diabetic retinopathy, epiretinal fibrosis. Operator 1 made the correct conclusion on the presence of macular pathology in 40 eyes, the operator 2 – in 41 cases (sensitivity of 93 and 95% respectively). In healthy eyes, operator 1 wrongly identified the pathology in only one case, the operator 2 – in three eyes (specificity of 96 and 88%, respectively). Erroneous conclusions were caused by the insufficient size and resolution of the scans and, besides, were more common with the outlying or extreme values of the parameters of the optical system of the eye. Conclusion . New generation optical biometer IOLMaster 700 along with measurements of the parameters of the ocular optical system allows a sufficiently high sensitivity and specificity to detect advanced pathological changes in the foveal retina. Additional diagnostic capabilities of the device will be useful when examining and planning of surgical treatment of patients with cataracts.
