Popis: | Several thousand people living in the United Kingdom who have been tortured face enormous challenges as a result of their ordeals, say expert submissions to parliament in the current debate on the Torture (Damages) Bill. The bill would enable victims of torture to seek justice in English courts if no other remedy were available to them. Redress, a charity that seeks reparation for survivors of torture, says that people who have been tortured usually need extensive medical treatment and social support for their physical and psychological injuries, which can last the rest of their lives.
