Popis: | Ischemic arm pain has been successfully utilized in 10 male and 10 female adult subjects in screening Ponstan and aspirin in comparison with placebo. In a double-blind approach, both drugs administered at approximately 8.5 mg/kg showed essentially the same capability for significantly raising pain threshold based not only upon the absolute work done P < 0.01, but upon the time required to do the work P < 0.05. While no significant difference in potency was noted between Ponstan and aspirin at these dosage levels and by this technique, it is important to point out that this drug is more effective than acetophenetidin or APC combinations based upon earlier work by this author (Williams, 1959). Thus, the place of Ponstan as an important new analgesic agent is without question. |
