Subcutaneous varices of the scrotum: a possible presentation of varicocele

Popis: A 54-year-old man presented at the outpatient surgery clinic with a history of increasingly severe pains in the left scrotal half during the last year. The pain occurred especially when he was riding his bicycle or when he was sitting down, and were virtually absent when he was lying down. Physical examination revealed the presence of subcutaneous varix 5 cm in length on the left side of the scrotum when the patient was standing or performing a Valsalva manoeuvre (Fig. 1). The testicles and funiculi seemed unremarkable. Phlebographic examination of the left femoral vein, both in the supine and the erect positions and during a Valsalva manoeuvre, showed no abnormalities.
