Popis: | Epithelial cell transforming sequence 2 (ECT2) is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor and its expression is associated with the development of malignant tumor types. However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no information on the role of ECT2 in the development and progression of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). The present study aimed at investigating the expression pattern and potential role of ECT2 in the development and progression of LSCC. The expression of ECT2 in 81 pairs of LSCC and adjacent non-tumor tissues was characterized by immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. ECT2 expression was upregulated in LSCC tissues and associated significantly with poor differentiation, higher stages, lymph node metastasis and poor survival in the sample population. The relative expression levels of ECT2 mRNA transcripts were correlated with the intensity of anti-ECT2 staining in 25 ECT2+LSCC specimens selected randomly. These results indicated that ECT2 expression was crucial for the progression of LSCC and may serve as a biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of LSCC. |
