Popis: | The behavior of the coal fired magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Faraday generator with 25 MW thermal input at the Institute of Electrical Engineering, China, is studied with time dependent two dimensional analyses on the x–y and x–z planes. (1) The calculated total power output shows good agreement with the experimental data. The distributions of load voltage and current also show fairly good agreement, while the experiment yielded better performance at the upper stream section and the computation shows better performance at the downstream section. (2) Analyses suggest the pressure loss, of which cause is not included in the present analysis. (3) Oblique shock waves are induced at the intersection of the upper and downstream sections and disturb distributions of quantities in the downstream section. (4) The shapes of boundary layers become different from each other on the x–y and x–z planes, although the MHD interaction is still small in the present generator. |
