While the use of computer-based learning in higher education is continuing to grow, there are still obstacles in the way of its uptake that need to be overcome. The process of selecting a suitable piece of software from an increasing wealth of such packages can be an arduous one. Having made the decision to use computer-based learning, it is often difficult to identify software that will successfully deliver the subject material being studied and meet the students' learning needs. This paper describes how the EASEIT-Eng project aims to address the issues surrounding the choice and implementation of computer-based learning software in engineering higher education. By evaluating a range of engineering teaching software, using the project's standardised evaluation process, and creating a fully-searchable database of software reviews and evaluation case studies, EASEIT-Eng seeks to make the task of implementing such software an easier one.
