Popis: | Summary The activities of five enzymes involved in glucose utilization were measured in synchronized cultures of Chinese hamster cells. In the 12 h after mitosis, the activity per cell of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, hexokinase, phosphoglucomutase, and glucose phosphate isomerase increased continuously to 180% of the initial values. The levels of oxidized and reduced pyridine nucleotides increased linearly, the ratio of oxidized-to-reduced forms remained constant, and the rates of oxygen consumption and lactate production were unchanged. These results suggest a stable basal cellular metabolism in these cells throughout interphase. |
