Popis: Direct dyes employed to colour linen and cotton lining fabrics and threads used in restoration have poor fastness to light and to washing. Their washfastness can be improved by applying a subsequent treatment with a fixing agent but this treatment reduces their lightfastness. In the present study, fastness to light and to washing was tested with and without a fixing agent. The use of these colorants in trichromatic dyeing systems appears to be incompatible with the practical requirements of restoration and conservation, and the use of vat dyes or reactive dyes is therefore recommended.
