Popis: In the transport system waterways have got a great importance in a lot of European countries. They function as an important link between the cities, countries, but also the hinterland and seaports. The Rhine is also one of the most important international waterways in the world from the point of view of cargo and passenger transport. Over the centuries ports have been built on the banks of this river which have become a significant element of the economy for the Rhine countries such as Germany, Netherlands or Switzerland. The Rhine River rises in Switzerland, and flows through various countries of Western Europe. It is navigable from Rheinfelden in the length of 889 kilometres and flows in the North Sea in the Netherlands through its branches.
