Popis: | This work introduces the Power Externality Correlation Tool (PECT); an interactive computer model that captures temporal and spatial variations in indirect emissions and water usage associated with electricity generation in the United States. The model was developed in Python and utilizes the WattTime API to obtain temporal and spatial fuel mix data. From the fuel mix data, overall emissions and water usage are calculated using emissions and water factors published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. Since databases spanning the United States are used, this tool is functional within regions in the United States only. PECT is a novel contribution to the portfolio of available tools for understanding the impacts of the built environment on the water, energy and climate nexus that can inform environmental decision-making.
