Popis: | Aptian-Albian transition record profound changes in the climate and one of the major disturbances in the global carbon cycle during the Cretaceous. The perturbation in the carbon cycle during Aptian-Albian transition is registered by deposition of layers of black-shales, called Oceanic Anoxic Event (OAE) 1b, associated with volcanic episodes of extensively volcanism in the Southern Kerguelen Plateau (SKP). However, the triggering mechanisms and effects for the OAE 1b remain mostly unclear. Sedimentological and paleontological evidences suggest marked changes in the surface water productivity and at the seafloor. In this study, we unravel the environmental magnetism signatures as a proxy for understanding of the Aptian-Albian paleoceanography. The systematic variations in environmental magnetism parameters along the studied record are consistent with increased terrigenous input and increased nutrient supply. Enhanced contribution of terrigenous material can be related with volcanic pulses of the SKP within OAE1b. We demonstrate that environmental magnetic parameters can provide useful proxies for terrigenous input that can help to resolve local vs. global drivers of paleoenvironmental and palaeoceanographic changes.
