Popis: | f m n a h d d ( The focus of this article is on the management of idioathic constipation in childhood. It is a common problem in hildren and when it becomes chronic and relapsing the hild and family face a very distressing problem. In the nited States estimates of constipation have varied from .3% to as high as 8% of children, accounting for 3% of isits to pediatric outpatient clinic and 20% of pediatric astroenterological complaints presenting to a pediatriian. There has been a steady increase in the number of hildren with severe constipation and a higher prevalence in ore developed countries compared with that in developing ountries. The diverse needs of children with constipation and fecal oiling are best met within a multidisciplinary therapeutic eam including nurses, pediatricians, general practitioners, hild psychiatrists and psychologists, and pediatric surgeons ho work as a team in partnership with the child and family. here is lack of evidence for the treatment of constipation as here are few useful randomized controlled trials in the edical literature and so much of our current management dvice is based on expert opinion rather than objective vidence. The aim of this article is to discuss the current manageent of childhood constipation based on review of literature nd our experience as a tertiary referral center in investigaion and treatment of lower intestinal motility disorders in hildren at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital, London. |
