Popis:	This paper provides an introduction to research portfolio analysis activities, including evaluation of research portfolios, in the context of federal research funding agencies in the United States. First, we discuss the portfolio analysis activities most commonly used by research funding agencies to inform research portfolio management; these activities are characterized as largely descriptive and/or comparative. We then explore potential opportunities for more integrated, data-driven research portfolio management, including approaches borrowed from decision and finance theory. Finally, we discuss the challenges faced by researchers attempting to incorporate portfolio analysis into comprehensive evaluation efforts. Copyright , Beech Tree Publishing.
