Popis: | Umbilical venous and arterial catheters are routinely used in the care of critically ill patients in neonatal intensive care settings. Providers caring for these vulnerable patients have a role in ensuring that catheter tips remain in an appropriate position. The ideal anatomic tip location for both types of umbilical catheters is reviewed, and the evaluation of this position via radiographic study is discussed. Umbilical venous catheters (UVCs) and umbilical arterial catheters (UACs) have their own different complications. Complications of a malpositioned catheter of either type can be life threatening; therefore, evaluation of catheter tip location is an important skill in the provision of neonatal intensive care. |
