ICT, catechesis and marriage and the family in the church in Nigeria: A qualitative study

Popis: Despite various criticisms about Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), onecannot dismiss in a hurry that life is mucheasier today thanks to ICT. Indeed, advances in technology haveimproved gathering and sharing of information, ways ofdoing business and medical care. What is more,religious perspectives are also changing courtesy of new technologies. To thisend, this qualitative study titled “ICT, Catechesis and Marriage and the Family in the Church in Nigeria: A Qualitative Study”employed thegrounded theory to ascertain the role of ICT in aiding all-round catechesis within marriage and the family inthecountry. As regards objective/purpose, the study sought to investigate the place of ICT in entrenchingCatechesis in Marriageand the family in the Church in Nigeria. It found lack of embracing e-catechesis andedutainment as well as initiating amultidimensional approach to catechesis as reasons for the impasse. Itrecommended initiating e-catechesis, infotainment and amultidimensional approach to catechesis as waysout. The study concluded that marriage and the family would be spirituallyenriched if the Church’s hierarchyin Nigeria direct the way in employing ICT for teaching all-round catechesis.
