Popis:	Under conditions that protract the S phase for Saccharomyces cerevisiae without affecting steady-state rates of cell growth or proliferation, there were striking decreases in the length of the G1 period. These decreases were localized in the period between mitosis and the start event that initiates a new cell cycle. We conclude that this major fraction of the G1 period has no functional role in the DNA-division sequence of cell cycle events.
