Popis: | Forty-four adult patients with Giardia lamblia infection and 22 matched healthy controls were studied with respect to haemogram, serum iron, serum iron binding capacity, serum folate, serum vitamin B12 levels, and absorption of Co57 vitamin B12, fat and D-xylose. Although some patients had subnormal values of certain parameters, particularly serum vitamin Bl2 and vitamin B12 absorption, similar low values were also present in some controls and the differences between the two groups for any of these variables were not significant. Haematological studies in 15 patients were repeated after cure and were substantially the same as in the initial studies. It was concluded that G. lamblia alone does not produce any significant haematological changes in man. |
