The largest land mammal of Bonai Forest Division, the Asian elephant plays a vital role in ecological balance. Asian elephant and human conflicts are a major problem nowadays in BFD due to poaching, encroachment, mining activities and less availability of food plants. They come under endangered category of IUCN, hence, conservation of this species has become a major concern worldwide and many researchers and scientists are taking steps to conserve them. In BFD some conservation strategies were implemented like plantation of food species in elephant habitat & awareness programme with tribal communities to reduce the conflict. Therefore, an attempt has been made to list out the common food plants of Asian elephant in the habitat of Bonai Forest Division, Odisha. |
