This chapter explores how the need for collaborative business models arises as part of the development of physical infrastructures in ports. Ports are systems of economic and strategic relations among economic actors that co-evolve. We identify the parameters of this evolution and how they contribute to the creation of collaborative business models, and we argue that this process is an important contribution to the development of regional and national innovation systems. The argument is embedded in a case study of the Port of Aalborg, which is a general representation of the process that characterises current port development in industrialised societies.
