Popis: | One of the major limitations of pterygium excision is the high rate of postoperative recurrence. Preoperative, intraoperative, or postoperative use of mitomycin-C (MMC) remains the most commonly used medical adjunctive therapy to prevent recurrence. However, once the recurrence occurs, reexcision is the only treatment option. We used topical MMC to treat acutely recurring pterygia without reexcision. The study included 4 patients who had a primary pterygium excision using amniotic membrane graft or conjunctival autograft without the use of MMC at the time of initial surgery and later developed a clinically significant, grade 4 recurrence (Figures 1 and 2), based on the classification described by Prabhasawat et al.
