| Popis: | This chapter is based on qualitative research conducted with over 250 young people aged 16–18 years in Romania’s initial vocational education and training (VET) system. The fieldwork used a bottom-up approach (see Powell, A critical assessment of research on South African FET colleges. South African Review of Education, 19(1), 59–81, 2), starting the conversation with what matters to the young people themselves rather than policy imperatives such as employability. Mobility was, inevitably, a cross-cutting theme that mattered to all interviewees, and this chapter will look at the different types of mobility envisaged and, more specifically, the meaning they attach to the idea of ‘going abroad.’ |
