Popis: | VIRAL INFECTIONS are common in intestinal transplant recipients because of intense immunosuppressive therapy required to prevent rejection. Although most reported morbidity has been associated with EBV and CMV disease, serious infection with adenovirus is increasingly recognized. As with herpesviruses, adenoviral disease may result from reactivation of latent infection in the allograft or in the recipient following transplantation, or it may arise de novo after transplantation. Clinical features of adenoviral infection in intestinal transplant recipients remain incompletely characterized. The following report describes our experience with adenoviral infection in ten patients receiving intestinal transplants between July 2000 and April 2001, who experienced varying degrees of morbidity. |
