Disclosures of the sexual abuse of child and adult athletes in sport emerged in the UK in the mid-1990s. By the mid-2000s, child protection and, later, safeguarding procedures had been introduced into sport, making the country one of the first in the world to adopt such measures. Appropriate and effective policy responses to address interpersonal violence (IV), of which child abuse is one form, depend on an accurate understanding of its prevalence . The project Child Abuse in Sport ��� European Statistics, known as CASES, was designed to support this endeavour. This report presents key preliminary findings relating to the prevalence of IV against children in the UK to inform those working in the field of organised sport, sport management, sport policy, sport politics, and safeguarding. |
