Novine srbske started coming out in Kragujevac on 5th January 1834 (as per the old calendar). Novine srbske was being published in Kragujevac until 1st June 1835when the print shop was relocated to Belgrade. The forms of journalistic expression were hybrid, including the features of factography and analytics. In addition to the topics that covered the news in Serbia, the articles on events in the region and other countries were also published. Russia was one of the topics in almost every issue of this newsletter. For the purpose of our paper, we will analyze the frequency of Russia - related topic sin Novine srbske, during the time period when this newsletter was published in Kragujevac, that is, between January 1834 and June 1835. The corpus we used to conduct the research was the reprint edition of Novine srbske from 2005 (phototype edition), published by the national library 'Vuk Karadžić' in Kragujevac. The analysis included 52 issues of Novine srbske which were included in this phototype edition. The research has shown that Russia - related topics had appeared in all the issues of Novine srbske, that is, there were 73 individual articles about Russia only, while Russia was indirectly mentioned around 20 times in the other articles published. Through the analysis of these articles, we can conclude that they represent a valuable document on social and political conditions, as well as a testimony of events and phenomena in 1834. |
