Popis: | During the course of an official US-People's Republic of China (PRC) Joint Health Agreement, a number of Chinese investigators have come to the intramural program of the NIMH for varying periods of time. In the process of planning specific collaborative studies, we became aware of a rather extensive Chinese clinical research experience not available in our Western literature. We were particularly struck by the fact that for nearly a decade Chinese clinicians have been turning more and more to clozapine in the treatment of psychosis. Furthermore, a substantial base of Chinese clinical research data documents efficacy and side effects in almost 500 patients. Given the current interest in clozapine in the United States, and concern about safety, we encouraged Dr. Zhang Liang Dong to summarize the Chinese clinical experience with this drug as well as a double-blind comparison of chlorpromazine and clozapine in 57 patients which has not been published. An overall summary of these findings is presented in this paper. The successful clinical utilization of clozapine in China |
