Popis: | A 44-year-old man recently returning from vacation to a temperate country presented with acute renal failure and staphylococcal toxic shock. There was no history of impaired immunofunction or diabetes mellitus. Initial laboratory investigations revealed a urea of 40.1 mmol/L, creatine of 808 mmol/L, creatine phosphokinase 514, and an elevated C-reactive protein of 440. To assess for a potential focal source of infection, a Tc-99m HMPAO-labeled leukocyte study was performed, which demonstrated avid increased uptake in the muscles of the trunk and proximal extremities, particularly within the muscles of the left forearm. |
