Popis: | In two earlier papers (Van den Bosch et al. 1990, 1992; see also Hengeveld 1994 and Hengeveld & Van den Bosch 1991 for a worked-out calculation) we arrived at the equation describing a species’ rate of spatial population expansion, C, under uniform conditions $$C = \frac{\sigma }{\mu }\sqrt {2{\text{ln}}\left( {{R_0}} \right)} $$ (1) in which µ represents the mean age of child bearing, σ the standard deviation of the marginal density of the sites where the individuals settle relative to their birth place, and Ro, the net reproduction rate of the females in the expanding population. |
