Popis: | Gynecologic uses of the progestational 19-nor steroids Norlutin (et hinyl-norethindrone) Enovid (norethynodrel) and Nilevar (norethandrolone) were presented. The 3 compounds produced similar endometrial changes and suppression of ovulation. Breakthrough bleeding occurred occasionally in about 10% of the patients receiving Enovid. Enovid controlled bleeding somewhat better than the others but it had a greater tendency to cause nausea the first 4-8 weeks. Weight gain and/o r edema breast symptoms abdominal pains and pelvic cramps were other side effects involved with the higher dosage of these compounds. Use of these drugs in treatments of essential dysmenorrhea hypermenorrhea "in adequate luteal phase" and dysfunctional flow were discussed. The most dramatic effect of these compounds was that of ovulation suppression. N o pregnancies occurred during the treatment of 58 patients from April 1956-August 1959. |
