Popis: | The generalized Pedersen conductivity is calculated by taking into account the mass motion of neutral particles in typical ionospheric conditions. It is shown that for electrostatic fields of periods more than 6 hr the generalized Pedersen conductivity is significantly less than the well-known Pedersen conductivity beyond 150 km in altitude. This suggests that the mass motion of neutral particles (namely a wind) is generated by the interaction between the charged particles and the neutral particles, resulting in dynamo action. The importance of this apparent reduction of the conductivity is discussed in the transmission of an electrostatic field from the magnetosphere (or from the dynamo effective region of the ionosphere) to the upper ionosphere. |
