Popis: Retroperitoneal hernias in the paraduodenal areas are uncommon lesions which have precipitated considerable interest since the first reported case over a century ago. With but few exceptions, publications on this subject are concerned with a single case report of a large paraduodenal hernia containing a major portion of the jejunum and ileum, with the diagnosis made at the time of surgical or necropsy examination. It has been noted that the herniated viscera are always small intestine and never contain omentum or colon. Insufficient attention has been given to the frequency and clinical significance of the small paraduodenal hernial defect which entraps short loops of bowel. When one observes the high incidence of significant paraduodenal fossae in abdominal exploration at the operating table and at necropsy examination, the evidence of small paraduodenal hernias is much greater than is generally appreciated. This study is intended to stimulate the interest of the clinician
