This is a content analysis of state government cattle traceability information resources from all 50 states. I searched the state department of agriculture website and the cooperative extension website in each state for the first 10 records pertaining to cattle traceability (additional search terms were used to account for some of the discrepency in terminology) Information topics, types, formats, and elements of information quality were evaluated. The study used state-level demographic data from the NASS 2012 agriculture census to give a picture of the information needs of the cattle producers in the state. States were compared for their ability to provide information based on these information needs. Additionally, the study incorporated social network analysis of the external resources with which each state linked out to - to provide understanding of what information is common across certain states and whether states are sharing information or are in anyway connected via information resources. |
