Popis: | 1. 1. The present work was undertaken to investigate the effects of biotin deficiency on the mice liver pyruvate carboxylase activity and gluconeogenesis from [14C]labelled pyruvates or bicarbonate. 2. 2. While pyruvate carboxylase was strongly inhibited by biotin deficiency, the incorporation of [14C]labelled precursors into blood glucose remained unaltered. 3. 3. The results obtained clearly show that pyruvate carboxylase exists in excess in the mice liver to permit normal gluconeogenesis under biotin deficiency. |
