This Awa Guaja narrative was recorded in 2016, in the Awa village, Caru Indigenous Land (Maranhao, Brazil) and is narrated by Hajkaramykỹ a Awa Guaja. It is an episode from a myth which has as its main character Kamixatuhujaxa’amỹ na, the owner of the tortoise, and it takes place when animals were “people” and tortoises could run. In this myth, the tortoise and the jaguar meet and the jaguar ends up deceived and dead. In the transcribed episode, the jaguar dies after having sexual intercourse with the tortoise.
