Popis: | AMONG the most serious complications of mitral stenosis is the formation of a thrombus in the left atrium and the discharge of the thrombus or a part of it as an embolus into the arterial circulation. When, in the presence of mitral stenosis, an embolus lodges at the aortic bifurcation the state of compensation of the heart is of major importance in the survival of the patient after embolectomy.
