M-CoLBA: Multichannel Collaborative Load Balancing Algorithm with queue overflow avoidance in WSNs

Popis: Wireless sensor networks are an attractive solution thanks to their ease of deployment and auto-configuration capacities. Their limited resources make the design of communication protocols a challenging task. When used in high data rate application scenarios, bandwidth and storage capacities become the main preoccupation. In this paper, we present a Multichannel Collaborative Load Balancing Algorithm, M-CoLBA, that enhances the network bandwidth and avoid losing data packets due to queue overflow on limited storage capacity nodes. We emphasize on the importance of using a load balancing routing protocol with a multichannel MAC protocol to avoid congestion and data loss. We present results of M-CoLBA using Cooja simulator and we compare it to a single channel version and a multichannel basic routing protocol. Results show that M-CoLBA achieves high packet delivery rate thanks to its load balancing technique.
