Popis: | National guidelines recommend observation for spontaneous passage of an ingested battery if the battery moves beyond the stomach in an asymptomatic child. We present a case of an asymptomatic child who presented with a button battery impacted in a Meckel's diverticulum causing perforation. We review national guidelines and suggest earlier consideration for intervention such as endoscopy or laparoscopy in children 2 years of age or younger, even if asymptomatic , in cases where there is a battery that fails to pass within 1 week. |
