Kinetics of solute transfer from whole blood in a haemodialyser

Popis: A theoretical analysis of solute transfer from whole blood in a haemodialyser is presented. The blood is treated as a two-compartment fluid containing red cells and plasma, the resistance of the red cell membrane to solute transfer is taken into account and predicted haemodialyser performance for various solutes is given. It is found that the ratio, red cell membrane mass transfer coefficient to dialysis membrane mass transfer coefficient, dictates the extent the red cells contribute to the overall mass transfer rate and consequently the effect this ratio has on dialyser performance.
