Popis: | Qualitative and quantitative changes in the carotenoid pigments of Corynebacterium poinsettiae are observed when in the basal medium the level of the required growth factor, thiamine, is altered. In the red cells which grow under conditions of low thiamine concentration, two major pigments are produced: spirilloxanthin and lycoxanthin. In the orange-yellow cells formed under conditions of high thiamine concentrations, three major pigments are produced: lycoxanthin, cryptoxanthin, and a small amount of spirilloxanthin. |
