Popis: | Summary The various types of biliary bypass procedures and results obtained in 193 patients with neoplastic disease blocking the extrahepatic biliary tree, are reported. Evidence has been presented that bypass procedures employing the common duct rather than the gallbladder may have a better chance of palliating the patient with obstructive jaundice caused by a neoplasm who is not a candidate for pancreatoduodenectomy. Comparison of the course of patients treated by biliary bypass with patients who were only explored, indicates a very modest difference in survival in favor of the bypass procedure. However, because a substantial percentage of patients with biliary bypass obtain objective and subjective relief, bypass procedures should be performed whenever possible. |
