Popis: | Nodular mesothelial/histiocytic hyperplasia (NMHH) is a benign reactive phenomenon that can occur at any mesothelial site. We report the case of a 33 year old male who presented with chest pain and a pleural effusion, and after several months of investigation was found to have positive syphilis serology and NMHH of the pleura that was positive for spirochetes on immunohistochemical stain. NHMM has been previously reported to be caused by physical, inflammatory/infectious, or neoplastic irritation of mesothelium at various sites. This is the first reported case of NMHH associated with syphilis. Keywords: Nodular mesothelial/histiocytic hyperplasia, Syphilis, Spirochete |
