This article intends to contribute to the reconstruction of the books’ heritage of Gaspare Luigi Oderico, jesuit and well-known antiquarian. He was called in 1777 by the former Jesuit Deputation, which was entrusted by the Senate of the Republic of Genoa with managing the assets of the Society of Jesus dissolved on 21 July 1773. They appointed him to compile the catalog of the Jesuit book heritage, which became the original nucleus of the current University Library of Genoa. In 1835 the library bought his books and manuscripts from one of his descendants. The book collection was not kept together and only the transcription of the manuscript catalog referring to the purchase has allowed its reconstruction. This paper provides the transcription of the catalog, the identification of individual works and, when possible, their current physical location in the halls of the University Library of Genoa. |
