Popis: | CaF2: Mn, LiF(TLD-700), and Li2B4O7: Mn in the forms of powders, chips and Teflon discs have been investigated for possible application in dosimetry at a bremsstrahlung generator delivering exposures up to 4 × 104 R in pulses of approximetly 10−7 sec duration. The 60Co response per roentgen was investigated over the range 103-106 R. Some degree of supralinearity was found in CaF2: Mn, hitherto unreported. Sample-to-sample reproducibility at 103 R was compared for the different forms of dosimeter. The dose rate dependence was investigated, qualitatively verifying Goldstein's finding that LiF(TLD-700) exhibits dose-rate saturation above approximatly 104 rad (in silicon) delivered in approximatly 10−7 sec. Considering handling convenience, low cost for single throw-away use, relatively small divergence from linearity, lack of dose-rate dependence, good reproducibility of response from unit to unit without individual calibration, and similarity of atomic number between the TL phosphor and the desired dose-reference material (Si), the 0.4 mm-thick 5 %-loaded CaF2: Mn-Teflon disc was found to be the dosimeter of choice for this application. |
