Popis: | Histiocytosis-X is a disease complex that includes Letterer-Siwe disease, Hand-Schuller-Christian disease, and eosinophilic granuloma. It is a non-neoplastic chronic disease of granulomatous nature which chiefly affects the reticuloendothelial system. The basic disorder is proliferation of histiocytes of unknown aetiology (Pressman et al, 1975). The disease is usually confined to the skeletal system. Central nervous system involvement is unusual and is associated frequently with bone lesions (Beard et al, 1970; Elian et al, 1969; Iraci et al, 1979; Kepes & Kepes, 1959; Rube et al, 1967); typically, it occurs late in the course of the disease (Greenwood et al, 1982; Sivalingam et al, 1977). |
