Popis: | Valproate (VPA)-induced hepatic affection is a rare complication. 2 such cases are described in the present study, the first a 24-year-old woman developing liver lesion due to VPA treatment, and the second a 73-year-old woman developing liver affection most probably due to VPA treatment. Both cases were reversible. The latter represents the oldest patient ever reported to suffer VPA-induced reversible liver lesion. Liver biopsy showed liver tissue with drug-induced changes. In order to prevent the development of irreversible liver toxicity, it is important to instruct the patient about the sympoms of VPA-induced liver toxicity and stop the treatment if necessary. |
