Popis: | Through her children book Mama’s Nightingale: A Story of Immigration and Separation (2015) as well as her young adult novel Anacaona: Golden Flower, 1490 (2005) Danticat introduces children to the complex reality of immigration and separation, loss, and fear. This chapter analyzes the themes of exile, home, place, belonging, citizenship, and language in Anacaona: Golden Flowerand Mama’s Nightingale: A Story of Immigration and Separation primarily through the paratextual elements, which reinforce the veracity of the stories and contribute to the authority and visibility that Danticat provides not only to Haiti but also to two groups that are often marginalized: women and children. The paratext also allows Danticat to insert her own history and that of her family. |
