The main theme of this thesis is the investigation of the structural, electronic and vibrational properties of three organic heteroaromatic molecules: 4-mercaptopyridine (4PySH), 4,4"-dithiodipyridine (PySSPy) and terthiophene (3T), adsorbed onto the same metallic substrate Au(111). The organic molecules have been thermally evaporated from a homemade crucible onto the gold substrate under UHV conditions and characterized by homemade low temperature Scanning Tunneling Microscope at 6 K. The geometrical properties of the adsorbed molecular structures have been characterized by Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM). Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy (STS) has been employed in order to characterize the electronic properties and map the differential conductivity of the adsorbed molecules. Additional information about the vibrational properties of the adsorbed molecules has been obtained performing Inelastic Tunneling Spectroscopy (IETS). |
